Not Draining / Grinding Noises
If your dishwasher is not draining or making weird noises while cleaning dishes. Follow the step-by-step guide. and it’s actually easier than you might think so.
Lets Start!
STEP 1
You need access to the bottom of the dishwasher, and you don’t need to pull out or disconnect anything. The only thing you are going to do is to remove the dishes from the dishwasher. In most of the models, you are able to lift the tray simply. So you are not going to bother to unload all these dishes.
STEP 2
You have to reach into the primary filter of it. Just unscrews and pops out, they are mostly easy to remove. And even some of them open up and you can see what’s going on inside.
You might have to look at your book. If necessary, do look into it. That filter might be pretty nasty as that’s the job for this filter to do.
STEP 3
You also see some leftover food and a label. This is just part of cleaning a dishwasher filter. But this is probably not the cause of your dishwasher’s noise.
Make sure that you do clean out your primary filter. Because oftentimes if this is really clogged you could have a problem of not draining or making noise.
Now, remove that bottom spray of your dishwasher. In some machines, it just pops right out easily. But don’t force it if it doesn’t want to come right out.
STEP 4
- After pulling out the bottom spray, you can see the bottom of the dishwasher. In the whirlpool model, There’s a little squeeze tab on the left side.
- All you need to do is push on that and pull this piece forward. You must have better access to the actual pump now.
- In some other models of a dishwasher, you might have to use a screwdriver to remove the impellers’ cover.
- You have to check for any debris pieces of glass plastic or even a label that could be jammed in. The only real way to do that is either with your fingers or a pair of tweezers.
- You have to feel around and see what you can find there. In the case of noise issues, you are more likely to find something there.
- A small plastic piece blocking the impeller from spinning may cause various types of errors to your machine.
- Now if you think everything’s clear, just replace that small door and make sure that everything lines up. You need to see an o-ring there and push it.
- You are going to hear a click sound. At that point, this is right back to where you started, except you don’t have the problem anymore.
STEP 5
At the last step, you just need to put the primary filter back in position and lock it in. Now you will replace the spray arm and this is just gonna snap back in place as well. Put the dish tray back in and replace it in position and run the machine to make sure it’s working fine.
9 Amazing Tips and Tricks

(Whirlpool GU24 55 xt SS0)
In case leaking your dishwasher, the problem more probably with those screws sticking out inside the door. It might look fine but if you push down you see against the door it creates a little gap. That is where the water can drip out.
SOLUTION 1
In order to tighten it, you need to use a security bit and a thread locker solution. Just unscrew the screw, put some good quality glue over it, and tighten it in the hole again.
SOLUTION 2
If you think that’s not the real problem, Check the gasket. It’s just rubber lining that goes all the way around. See if there are any cuts or breaks in it. If so you might just need to replace it, go for it, or buy a new seal. Sometimes you have a spatula into the dishwasher or spoon, that was just in the wrong way blocking your door from closing.
